Learn to create a stunning watercolor painting with local Watercolorist, Ken Stanek (aka studionumbernine)

Unleash your creativity and dive into the world of watercolor painting! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, Ken will guide you through various techniques and materials. With step-by-step demonstrations and personalized feedback, you'll learn to work carefully and lightly, achieving different textures through subtle control of water and pigment. Bring your artistic visions to life!

So grab your brushes & paper, head to the studio!

Supplies needed

Paint, brushes, paper, and a few pens

As always, It's recommend visiting your local art supply store, but Amazon will do in a pinch.

Watercolor paint

Windsor & Newton isn't too expensive and is a diverse palette. The watercolors we use will be in “pans”.  Those are the little rectangular color blocks you see - as opposed to watercolors in tubes. Which one is better? Both are good!

Buy from Amazon (but go to your local art store first & ask them)

Brushes

Don’t overthink or overspend. A few watercolor brushes will do to start.  Just like with the paint, the quality of the brush makes a big difference in the quality of your art.  A simple set is fine for now.

If you’re staring at a wall of brushes and are having decision paralysis, get these:

Round pointed 6

Round 10

1/2” or 3/4” flat

Watercolor brushes (again, go to your local art store first.)

Watercolor Paper

This Canson XL watercolor

Buy here (you know what to do though. Local art store first)

Arches watercolor paper is a big step up. It’s more pricey, but much better.

NOTE from Ken: I’m using amazon affiliate links above.  “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.”
